The Texas A&M Rio Grande Valley Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Hub (RAMI) in Brownsville, TX, which is administered by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), has formed a collaboration with SATA USA to provide training for employees at its Brownsville manufacturing plant, which manufactures flywheels and gears for commercial trucks.
Leadership from SATA USA and the Greater Brownsville Incentive Corporation (GBIC) toured RAMI in October to discuss various training opportunities for SATA USA employees to help upskill and retain its local workforce, including leadership, lean manufacturing, process improvement, machine maintenance, workplace safety and heavy equipment training.
“SATA USA would like to thank the staff at RAMI for this opportunity to visit and discuss our training needs and how to implement specialized courses to better prepare our operators, supervisors and management teams,” said Fortino Escobar, Human Resources Manager. “With the cooperation of TEEX and GBIC, we feel SATA USA can reach our goals in workforce skills development and employee retention.”
“By working with the GBIC, community leaders and local industry, RAMI supports transforming the RGV into a leader in advanced manufacturing,” said Abel Campos, RAMI project manager. “We are thrilled to tailor a training program for SATA USA to support its 60-plus employees at the Brownsville facility. Our training methodology takes a comprehensive look at an organization and allows us to develop a training progression plan to address the company’s specific needs.”
RAMI was established in 2021 by the Texas Legislature to enhance skills in demand by the advanced manufacturing sector in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), connecting residents and local industry to state-funded training they need to train, work and live in the RGV, while also stimulating the local economy.
SATA USA opened in Brownsville in 2016 and is the SATA Group’s only manufacturing facility in North America. SATA Group is a family-owned business founded more than a century ago in Valperga, Italy, where the company headquarters is located.
